AudioBoo, a new application for the iPhone, is a mobile platform that allows for the easy creation of podcasts on the go. While the service is new, the accessibility and ease of use of the podcasting service is already collecting a number of members and admirers.
After creating an AudioBoo account, using and recording with the software is extremely simple. Called “the Twitter of podcasts” by Mashable, the service provides the ability to share podcasts and quick audio clips wherever you are. Users can even subscribe to receive the clips of other members, and the service integrates with Twitter and Facebook.
AudioBoo is essentially the introduction of podcasting to social networking. From the AudioBoo website, you can sort through the most recent or popular clips, or “boos,” as they are called. Boos from around the world are available and refreshed on a continuous basis. With the simplicity of the iPhone app, the barrier to entry to podcasting has been seriously lowered. Additionally, AudioBoo stands to make the same kind of breakthrough in citizen journalism as Twitter has, allowing for first hand reports of breaking news as they happen, from the average person.
While the site is still new and more developments are sure to come, AudioBoo has only recently been released out of beta as a free app in the iPhone store. Over time, as the service gains popularity, there are plans to roll out Wordpress plugins for embedding boos into blogs. Future updates to the application will include the ability to store boos on the iPhone as well as store them for uploading at a later date. Check out a demo video of the product here.
